New PET radiotracer offers clearer view of brain inflammation - News-Medical

A new PET radiotracer, ¹⁸F-PDE-1905, has been developed to provide high-resolution images of brain inflammation, which could enhance diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and multiple sclerosis. Research presented at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging 2025 Annual Meeting highlights the tracer's ability to specifically target phosphodiesterase 4B (PDE4B), an enzyme linked to inflammatory responses in microglia. The study reveals that PET imaging with ¹⁸F-PDE-1905 shows significantly higher uptake in affected brains compared to controls, indicating greater specificity than current TSPO-targeting tracers. This advancement may lead to earlier, more accurate diagnoses and improved personalized treatment options in neurodegenerative conditions.
